Majority voters want caretaker government

Update : 12 Feb 2014, 08:49 PM

Most of the voters still rate the caretaker government system as the “best” one to hold a general election, according to the latest opinion poll conducted by the Dhaka Tribune.

At the same time, more than half of the people surveyed think a free and fair election is possible under an all-party government, which would work as an interim authority during the poll.

Over 63% of the respondents supported the caretaker government system as the “best method of holding the next general election” and over 16% went with the “all-party government.” Again, 18.2% of the people picked an “elected government” as the right authority to hold the general election.

The respondents were asked a supplementary question – if they thought a “free and fair election under an all-party government” was possible.

Just over 56% of them answered “definitely possible” while 23.3% just said “possible.” On the other hand, around 16% people said it was “definitely not possible” while 14% went with the “not possible” option. 14% of those polled were not sure.
