An Islami Chhatra Shibir member has been killed and four others, including three policemen, have been injured in a “gunfight” in Satkania upazila of Chittagong on Wednesday morning.
The deceased Shibir member was identified as Jasim. The other injured Shibir member was identified as Rafique.
Satkania police station Officer-in-Charge Khaled Hossain said: “Acting on a tip off, police raided Keutia High School field around 11am.”
“The Shibir activists opened fire targeting the police,” he said.
In retaliation, police fired 15 rounds of bullets that triggered a gunfight leaving two police constables, Shahriar and Humayun, and an Ansar VDP personal Majnu injured.
Meanwhile, a light gun, a locally made gun and eight rounds of cartridges were recovered from the spot.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital police camp In-charge Sub-Inspector Johirul Islam said: “The injured Shibir members were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Jashim dead.”
