The High Court has awarded life time imprisonment to three people for killing Golam Rabbani, a prosecution witness in Bangabandhu murder case.
An HC bench comprised of Justice M Enayetur Rohim and Justice Kazi Akram Hossain Chowdhury pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.
The convicts are Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Abu Naser Chowdhury and Mohammad Selim.
The court acquitted one of the accused Abdul Malek Sohel and ordered the lower court to give fresh judgement in light with the observation of High Court against accused Saiful Islam.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Deputy Attorney General Khondokar Diliruzzaman and Assistant Attorney General Gazi Mamunur Rashid were present during the verdict pronouncement.
Rabbani was an aide-de-camp (ADC) of slain president Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a witness in the Jail Killing Case.
A gang of armed criminals shot Rabbani, also former chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and former director general of the Department of Shipping, in his throat by intercepting his microbus at Muradpur in Chittagong when he was going to the KEPZ on April 11, 2004.
AKM Emtajul Islam, former site engineer of the KEPZ, filed an attempt of murder case with Panchlaish Police Station on the same night.
Rabbani succumbed to his injuries at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok on April 24, 2004, 13 days after the shooting. The case was then turned into a murder case.
