The Ministry of Cultural Affairs yesterday announced the names of 15 individuals selected for this year’s Ekushey Padak (Award), one of the country’s highest civilian awards.
This year’s selected awardees are: Shamsul Huda and the late Badrul Alam in recognition for their roles during the language movement; Samarjit Roy Chwodhury, Ramkanai Das, the late SM Solaiman and Keramat Mawla for their contributions to the arts; Daily Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar for his contribution to journalism; Dr Enamul Haque and Dr Anupam Sen for their contributions to research and education respectively; Jamil Chowdhury, Belal Chowdhury, Rashid Haider, Biprodash Borua and the late Abdus Shakur for their contributions to language and literature; and Professor Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to social welfare.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the awards to the awardees at a ceremony to be held at the capital’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium on February 20.
