The Supreme Court scrapped the anticipatory bail for Hall-Mark Chairman Jesmin Islam in response to an appeal of the Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hussain, scrapped the bail that was awarded by the High Court.
The chairman of Hall-Mark Group, the company involved in one of the country's biggest financial scam, secured a month's High Court anticipatory bail on January 19.
The anti-graft watchdog challenged this verdict of the High Court and took matters up to the highest court. The Appellate bench passed the verdict after hearing.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan represented the anti-graft watchdog while Rafiue-Ul Huq represented Hall-Mark Group Chairman Jesmin Islam.
Jesmin Islam is currently facing charges under two cases of swindling money worth over Tk420 crores, what was the biggest loan scam of the country.
Her husband, Tanvir Mahmud, the managing director of the group and allegedly the mastermind behind the scam, is currently behind the bars.
