The body of AKM Yusuf was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after directives were issued to hand over the body in accordance to prison laws.

The cadaver of the Razakar founder and Jamaat-e-Islami leader accused for war crimes arrived at DMCH around 5:20pm on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, Tribunal 2 ordered authorities to hand over Yusuf’s body to family in accordance to prison laws in response to a plea against placing the cadaver under post-mortem.

Lawyers of the accused war criminal placed the plea at International Crimes Tribunal, prosecution’s conducting lawyer Zahid Imam said.

They pleaded the court to hand over the body to the family without a post-mortem citing reasons that doctors had declared the death natural.

The prosecution requested the Tribunal 2 to take actions in line with the existing laws.

The bench passed its order after completing hearing of both sides. The order was sent to the Inspector General of Prisons immediately.

Alleged war criminal Yusuf died while undergoing treatments at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University suffering various old age-related complexities.

According to the hospital’s Director Brig Gen Abdul Mazid Bhuiyan, Yusuf died within an hour after he was admitted, brought in from Kashimpur jail in the morning.
