India has requested Bangladesh to lift the ban on export of Hilshas to the country, a handout from the information ministry said on Sunday.
Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran met Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Sayedul Haque at his office and made the request.
The Indian envoy said to have underlined the long friendship between the two countries. “The Hilsha of Bangladesh is very popular in India,” he said.
Bilateral trade between the two countries have grown from mutual interest, the high commissioner said. “Thus, the two countries are respectful towards mutual demands.”
Fisheries Minister Sayedul Haque assured the Indian envoy of discussing the matter with high-ups in the government and come to a decision.
Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka can gain economically by conducting research in the Bay of Bengal, he said stressing for mutual assistance in this regard.
