The body of alleged Razakar founder and Jamaat-e-Islami leader AKM Yusuf will be handed over to his family in line with the laws of the prison.
International Crimes Tribunal 2 passed the order on Sunday afternoon in response to a plea for not to place the cadaver of Yusuf under post-mortem.
Hours earlier, lawyers of the accused war criminal placed the request at the Tribunal 2, according to prosecution’s conducting lawyer Zahid Imam said.
On the other hand, the prosecution had requested to take actions according to existing laws.
The bench of Tribunal 2 passed its order after completing hearing of both sides. The order was sent to the Inspector General of prisons immediately.
Alleged war criminal Yusuf died while undergoing treatments at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University suffering various old age-related complexities.
According to the hospital’s Director Brig Gen Abdul Mazid Bhuiyan, Yusuf died within an hour after he was admitted, brought in from Kashimpur jail in the morning.
