Update : 06 Feb 2014, 01:42 PM

Medical diagnostic centres which are not up to the mark will be closed down soon, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim hinted on Thursday.

“The government will take steps soon to shut down below-par diagnostic centres which have mushroomed in the district towns and villages,” he said.

“These diagnostic centres are not necessary. They do not provide standard services and only mount to the suffering of the people,” the minister said in a meeting.

The health minister was speaking while meeting officials of the National Neuroscience Institute and Hospital in the capital.

Some specialised hospitals have been initiated to ensure standard services for the people, the minister said. Those hospitals have been equipped with the latest in medical technology.

Nasim reiterated on the government's plans towards a law to make rural services mandatory for each doctor. He urged the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) to be rigid in this regard.
