Ganajagaran celebrating 1st anniversary

Update : 04 Feb 2014, 06:58 PM

The Ganajagaran Mancha, a youth platform demanding trial of war criminals, is celebrating its one year of movement today (Wednesday).

A group of youths, mostly online activists, formed the platform on February 5 last year at the capital’s Shahbagh square, demanding the death penalty for Jamaat leader Quader Mollah after the International Crimes Tribunal handing over the verdict of life sentence to the convicted notorious war criminal.

Though the movement of Ganajagaran Mancha was initiated by a group of youths, it became a huge mass protest joined by people from all walks of life, imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation.

One of the key organizers of the Mancha, Mahmudul Haque Munshi Badhan, told BSS on Wednesday that they have chalked out three-day programme to celebrate the first year anniversary of their movement.

The programme will start by placing wreaths at the national memorial monument at Savar at 7am. After that, the youths will place wreaths at the Shaheed minar language monument at the Dhaka University campus to mark the day.

The main programme will start by singing the national anthem at 3pm at the Shahbagh square and taking oath to continue their movement in future at 3:30pm.

After that, they will bring out a parade named ‘jagaran jatra’ from Shahbagh at 4pm. The other Ganajagaran Manchas in all districts and abroad will also join the oath and parade simultaneously, Badhan said.

Apart from these, the Mancha will arrange art competitions for children and arrange memorial meetings and cultural shows at every evening of the three days- February 5, 6 and 7.

The Mancha will also organise a rally named ‘jagaran samabesh’ at 3pm on February 7, Badhan said.
