Anti-Corruption Commission is in Patuakhali to probe into the acquisition of wealth of former water resources minister Alhaj Mahbubur Rahman.

A team, led by Assistant Director Khairul huda, visited Kalapara Water Development Board office on Tuesday, Executive Engineer Md Shafiuddin said.

They will visit Kuakata, Rangabali and other areas and will quiz some Awami Leauge leaders and businessmen for their probe, the WDB official said.

Mahbubur Rahman, currently Patuakhali-4 lawmaker, had amassed huge wealth during his term as a minister in the previous Awami League government.

The anti-graft watchdog noticed the wealth statement that was submitted to the Election Commission ahead of the 10th general polls.

According to the statement, in five years of previous term, the junior minister had amassed almost 150 times of the land he owned earlier.

He owned 2,865 acres of land, what was 20 acres five years ago, and his yearly income increased almost 80 folds, his wealth statement shows.

Mahbubur Rahman is said to own vast areas of land in Kuakata, Rangabali and other areas.
