Jr home boss: No mercy for violence

The government will not show any tolerance towards violence, state minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Sunday.

The activities of the intelligence agencies in order to maintain a stability in the law and order situation, he told the Dhaka Tribune at his office.

“It is our prime responsibility to protect the lives and assets of the people and there will be no mercy to law violators,” he said.

On the probability of BNP waging tougher movements after upazila-level elections, the junior home boss said only peaceful political programmes will be allowed.

“But, no one will be allowed to indulge in violence like arson on buses and houses or damaging state properties. Identified violators will be brought to book.”

Regarding the 100 days of activities of his ministry, Kamal said his priority will be to maintain law and order and curb spread of narcotics.

“We are still working on the plan. You will receive our final diagram within a week.”

Meanwhile the government has decided to strengthen the law enforcement agencies by recruitment into the police force. “We plan to recruit 20,000 policemen.”

The decision comes in line with a meeting held on January 26 at the prime minister’s office with the premier’s political adviser HT Imam in the chair.
