The freedom fighters will get Tk5000 as monthly allowance from January, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said.
The minister made the statement while addressing a roundtable at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in Sylhet on Saturday morning.
He said: “I have talked with Finance Minister AMA Muhith about the allowance hike. The finance minister has approved it.”
Currently the freedom fighters are getting Tk2000 as monthly allowance.
“The government will publish a gazette of freedom fighter’s list soon. Previous gazettes will be cancelled,” said AKM Mozammel.
He asserted that the freedom fighters would be provided digital certificates.
Mozammel said the government would form a committee for verifying genuine freedom fighters.
“A tribunal will also be formed where the genuine freedom fighters can appeal if any dropped from the list,” the minister added.
He said fake freedom fighters would be awarded minimum punishment if they surrender.
