At least 3 policemen and one Shibir activist were injured in a “gunfight” with supporters of Islami Chhatra Shibir in Satkania upazila, Chittagong early on Saturday.
Satkania police station Officer-in-Charge Khaled Hossain endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.
Police arrested injured Shibir cadre, Nasir alias Kolla Nasir, from the spot.
They alo recovered a light gun, a shotgun, eight rounds of cartridges and a knife from the spot.
The injured Shibir cadre, Nasir alias Kolla Nasir, who is accused in several cases, was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
The injured policemen SIs Fazlu, Nazmul, and ASI Ansarul were admitted to a police hospital.
Police, in a raid, arrested Nasir at 12:30pm Saturday from Alinagar of Satkania. According to his confessional statement during quizzing after arrest, police conducted a drive in Middle Kanchhana area of Satkania early Saturday to recover arms and Nasir’s aides, the OC said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the Shibir activists opened fire, forcing police to retaliate and fire 16 bullets, leaving Shibir activist Nasir shot in his leg while fleeing, he added.
During gunfight, Nasir’s aide Rimon and three policemen were also injured. Police, later. arrested Nasir from the spot.
