3 robbers killed in Rangpur ‘gunfight’

Three alleged robbers have been killed and four others have been injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Shah Amanat Filling Station point under Mithapukur upazila on Friday.

The deceased are Anwar Hossain, 30, of Madaripur district, Ripon, 35, of Mymensingh district, and Ahmed, 32.

Police sources said a police patrol team challenged the gang of alleged robbers when they attacked a petrol pump on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in the early hours of the day.

Later, the robbers opened fire targeting the police.

In retaliation, police fired back that triggered the ‘gunfight.’

At a stage, Anwar and Ripon died on the spot while Ahmed sustained bullet injuries. 

Police rushed Ahmed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 10am.

Meanwhile, police arrested three alleged robbers from the spot and recovered a pistol and Tk1 lakh from their possession.
