The defence lawyers will appeal the verdict that sentenced 14 to death and life imprisonment in two separate cases of the sensational 10-truck arms haul.
Hamdur Rahman, counsel of retired Wing Commander Shahabuddin Ahmed, said: “We will appeal against the verdict in the High Court.”
He added: “We did not expect the highest punishment for Shahabuddin for his involvement in the case.”
Earlier in the afternoon, a special court in Chittagong court sentenced 14, including two ministers of the then BNP government Matiur Rahman Nizami and Lutfozzaman Babar, to death in the 10-truck arms haul smuggling case on Thursday afternoon.
The same 14 convicts were awarded life imprisonment sentences in the arms case.
