Update : 29 Jan 2014, 06:08 PM

Theatre troupe Drishtipat will stage Raja Himadri today at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 6:30pm.

The play, which is the 21st production of Drishtipat, has been adapted from Greek classic Oedipus by Sophocles and is directed by Dr Khandaker Tazmi Noor. The play offers an interesting look at the great Greek tragedy.

Raja Himadri tells the story of King Himadri, a sympathetic, arrogant leader who was soul-searching for his true identity. Himadri, the king of Himalayans, who ascends to the throne after the killing of Chadnrashekher, is accepted as her husband by Indrani, the Queen of the Himalayans.

King Himadri and his wife Himrani live happily together until a stranger arrives one day and discloses Himadri’s dark secret. The secret opens a bleak chapter in the royal couple’s life culminating in their separation.

On the other hand, Lokonatyadal (Shidweshari) will stage its production Lilaboti Akhyan at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA. The play is vocal in spreading awareness about women’s suffering and struggle in a male dominated society.

The play written by Nasrin Mustafa and directed by Liaqaut Ali Lucky, is a historical tragedy based on the life of princess Lilaboti from Singhal who was popularly known as Khona.
