Tolerable load-shedding this summer: junior minister

Update : 28 Jan 2014, 07:41 PM

The government is looking to bring down load-shedding to zero during next summer, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said.

During a visit to the Desco head office yesterday, he said there was no load-shedding in the country at present as the government had successfully enhanced generation capacity to over 10,000MW.

He admitted a shortage of primary fuel for generating power and said two compressor stations would be set up in two months to maximise gas pressure.

“We have made special preparations to ensure uninterrupted power supply to rural areas for irrigation during the next Boro season [January-May],” he said.

According to the Power Division, the estimated demand for power during Boro season is about 1,700MW.

Desco Chairman Md Mofazzel Hossain and acting MD Arjad Hossain accompanied the state minister.
