RAB has arrested two persons including the prime accused in the Kishoreganj Sonali Bank burglary in the capital's Shyampur Balurmath area on Tuesday afternoon.
Habib alias Sohel was arrested with the burgled money from Tonoy Vila, Col Ziaul Ahsan, additional director general (operation) of RAB, told the Dhaka Tribune.
Another arestee is Motahar.
It was still unclear whether Habib was held with the total amount of money looted, the RAB official said.
He said: “The money was found dispersed in five sacks but it has not been counted yet.”
On Monday, some 45 people, including 12 Sonali Bank officials, in Kishoreganj were held for interrogation in connection with a Tk16.4 crore looting incident.
Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Malek confirmed of the interrogation to the Dhaka Tribune.
Branch Manager Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan was amongst the detainees.
On the same day, Deputy General Manager Sheikh Amanuallah filed a case against some unidentified individuals in this connection with Sadar police station in the afternoon.
The authorities of Bangladesh Bank and Sonali Bank formed separate investigation committees to investigate into the incident where Tk16.4 crore was looted from a vault of a Sonali Bank Limited branch in Kishoreganj.
On Sunday, eight policemen were suspended following the incident. These policemen were deployed in the barrack located in the basement of the branch to maintain the security of the vault.
