A total of 35 passengers have been rescued from the capsized launch in Lohalia River near Patuakhali river port.
“Some 35 passengers have been rescued by other launch and fishing boats,” said Amitav Sarkar, deputy commissioner Patuakhali.
No causality or missing person was reported as of 10pm on Monday, said S M Badrul Alam, assistant director in-charge of Patuakhali river port.
Witnesses and administration sources said a Dhaka bound MV Anchal-5 leaving Patuakhali river port hit the backside of MV Shathil-1 around 6:15pm that left MV Shathil -1 striking a shoal and drowning partially, told Rafikul Hasan Gani, Patuakhali district police superintendent.
Salvage vessel Rustam has been ordered to proceed to the spot from Dashmina of Patuakhali, said Ashraf Hossain, BIWTA deputy director for conservancy and piloting.
