Demo against Big 3 continues

Update : 26 Jan 2014, 12:42 PM

A group of cricket fans on Sunday have staged their demonstration for the second day at Shahbagh in protest against the Big 3 proposal on test cricket placed to the International Cricket Council.

The Bangladeshi cricket fans under the banner of “Paribartan Chai” gathered in front of the National Museum in the capital’s Shahbagh around 4pm and stayed till 6pm.

While staging the demonstration, they demanded the cancellation of the proposal and also urged the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials to stand against it.

They sought the intervention of the two top leaders of the country in this regard and urged them to keep cricket out of any political and bilateral issues.

Fida Haq, coordinator of the group, also requested the law enforcers not to bar the peaceful demonstration.

On Saturday, the BCB took a stance against the Big 3 - India, England and Australia - proposal on test cricket placed to the International Cricket Council.

In the draft proposal, India, England and Australia said: “The teams who are staying between the ranking of 9 and 10 will not be able to take part in the test cricket; they have to play at ICC Intercontinental Cup.”

In the test ranking, Zimbabwe’s position is 9 with 34 points while Bangladesh’s position is 10 with 18 points.

If the proposal were to be passed, Bangladesh would not play the test cricket.

The BCB earlier expressed strict reservations about some portions of the proposal, especially those with legal and constitutional implications and those that may be interpreted as being contrary to the rights of a full member.
