In face of mass criticism, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam has donated money by selling the gold boat he was gifted on Friday in Rajshahi.
The disclosure was made through issuing a government press note on Saturday.
The press note reads: Shahriar Alam has donated the money (in comparison with the gifts’ monetary value) to a local handicapped’s organisation named “Prottasha”.
The junior minister handed over the money to Prottasha President Rushdar Ahmed at Rajshahi Circuit House on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, local municipality Mayor Akkas Ali gifted the golden boat to the lawmaker and ward 8 Awami League President Kawser Hossain gave him the coat pin.
The state minister in reply requested his fellows not to give him such gifts in the future.
Bagha upazila Awami League had accorded the reception to the minister keeping hundreds of school-kids hungry and waiting in queues for hours.
