Bank official commits suicide to get rid of cancer

A bank official who was suffering from cancer has committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a four story building in Chittagong on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, Pulak Kanti Das, 42, son of Anil Baran Das, was an official of Premier Bank.

He resided with his family at Battery Goli area under Chawkbazar police station in the port city, said police.

“Pulak was depressed as he was suffering from cancer and spent a huge amount of money for treatment.

He was depressed as everyone was asking him to pay them back,” said his wife Sipra Das.

Earlier, Pulak attempted suicide several times to get rid of cancer, added his wife.

Pulak jumped off the roof around 4:45pm after locking his family members into the flat, she said.

Later, the locals rescued seriously injured Pulak from the road and rushed him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 5:15pm where he was pronounced dead, said Sub-inspector Jahirul Islam, in-charge of CMCH police outpost.

The body was sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy, he said.

A case was lodged with Chawkbazar police station in this regard.
