LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam has urged authorities concerned to immediately disclose the reasons behind the suicide of Salma, a Rana Plaza survivor who reportedly committed suicide on Friday morning.
He made the call in a written statement issued on Saturday afternoon.
The statement reads: The media reports on “Rana Plaza survivor Salma sacrificed life to settle the flame” were incorrect and less-informative.
The minister said the reports have mentioned lack of treatment and financial incapability of the worker aiming to dislocate as the main reasons behind Salma's suicide.
The statement said the government has provided all necessary treatments to the Rana Plaza survivors.
The Ninth Infantry Division of the Army has coordinated the works. But media reports said Salma has received only Tk1.20 lakh from the government and other organisations, which is “incorrect”.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has supported her with necessary financial needs.
“The statement which said Salma’s treatment was hindered due to financial incapability is incorrect and fabricated. She lead a normal life till date which proves that she did not have any financial inability,” the statement said.
Rana Plaza survivor Salma has reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the capital’s Bamnarteck on Friday morning.
Quoting the neighbors and her husband Babu, the police said the victim had been partially mentally imbalanced since the collapse.
On April 24 last year, the nine storied building Rana Plaza collapsed at Savar, which claimed at least 1135 lives and injured nearly 2500 people.
