Paturia-Daulatdia ferry services disrupted for 4 hrs

Update : 24 Jan 2014, 04:14 AM

Ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route remained suspended for four hours on Friday morning due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.

Bidyut Kumar Saha, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation at Paturia ghat, said they kept suspended ferry service and plying of the water vessels from about 6am due to blurred visibility for dense fog.

The ferry service was restored at 10am.

Two ferries -- Shah Paran and Barkat -- remained stranded in the middle of the river Padma for the suspension.

Eight ferries remained stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia terminals due to the disruption, reports UNB.

Around 800 goods-laden vehicles, private cars and passenger buses had to remain in wait at both the ghats for the halt to ferry operation.
