Minister: Doctors must serve villages for 2yrs

Doctors will be mandated to serve in villages for minimum two years, if needed by legislation, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said on Thursday.

The provision will be compulsory for permanent employment under the government, the minister said. “Otherwise they can choose to leave the job.”

The minister was speaking in a view exchange meeting with officials of the health department, a handout circulated by the information ministry said.

The common folks have to spend a large amount of heard-earned money to make doctor, the minister said. “So, it cannot be that a doctor will not provide health care in the villages.”

The minister also vowed for a zero-tolerance to corruption in his department and urged officials concerned to refrain from such ill-activities.

He warned of tough measures if any corruption allegations were to be found.

Director general of health department Khandakar Sifayet Ullah and secretary for health affairs Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dablu were present in the meeting.
