Some 20 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in the Shaistaganj area of Habiganj district on Thursday morning.
Of the injured, five were sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
Upon receiving information, law enforcers led by Assistant Police Super (South) Mozammel Haque rushed to spot and took the situation under control.
Police sources claim that there was a long-standing dispute between the authorities of World Vision Cable Network with Salim Chowdhury and Shakil Chowdhury of Sharifabad village over the possession of a shop near Shaistaganj railway station.
Over the same matter, a group led by Salim and Shakil took position in World Vision Cable Network’s office in the early hours of the day.
Later, they locked in a clash when five people led by Sohel Mia, the director of cable network, went to the spot.
Confirming the matter, Shaistaganj police station Officer-in-Charge Nizam Uddin said: “The situation in the area is now under control. Additional police have been deployed in area to avoid further untoward situation.”
