Update : 21 Jan 2014, 09:01 AM

A Dhaka court Tuesday rejected the bail and remand petitions of five BNP leaders in two cases filed with Motijheel police station.

The BNP leaders are Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Shimul Biswas, Rafiqul Islam Mia and Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed.

Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order when the investigation officers of the cases produced the BNP leaders before the court seeking a 10-day remand in each cases.

The court however permitted the investigation officers to grill the detained BNP leaders at the jail gate within five working days.

The defence lawyers filed separate bail petitions for the leaders.

After hearing, the court rejected the bail pleas.

Hafiz was shown arrest in a case filed with Motijheel police station for torching seven cars and blasting several cocktails in front of Motijheel Ideal School on September 24 while the others were shown arrest in a case filed with the same police station over vandalism, arson, and hindering police duty.
