A decapitated body has been recovered from a traffic police barrack located behind Paltan Police Station in the capital on Tuesday morning.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Paltan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khorshed Alam said: “The body of a beheaded man was recovered in the morning from the barrack of the Traffic Police.”
“We are not sure of whether the victim was a policeman or anyone else, as the body was beheaded”, the OC said in reply to a query.
OC Khorshed Alam said they were searching for the head of the victim to identity him and were investigating into the matter.
Police officials said the murder took place sometime on Monday night and the unidentified killers took away the head of the victim.
Paltan Police Station Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam said they recovered the body around 11:15am after receiving information.
“The body was recovered from the roof of a six-storey building of the traffic police barrack located behind the Paltan Police Station at Nayapaltan and adjacent to Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital”, said SI Aminul Islam.
Sources said the killing created panic among the policemen of the barrack.
