Supreme Court judges will enjoy a special allowance, equivalent to a half of their basic salary.
The cabinet yesterday approved the draft of the Supreme Court Judges (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Law, 2014, keeping a provision to give the higher court judges an extra 50% of their basic salary as a special allowance.
Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan disclosed it to the media after the meeting. The draft was approved at the second cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The move to give a pay rise to the judges came two weeks after Awami League was re-elected to power in the 10th parliamentary polls, held on January 5.
