The authorities of Pabna Government Girls High School have decided to build a statue of Suchitra Sen on the school premises in memory of the legendary actress.
The decision came from a condolence meeting held at the school on Saturday afternoon to commemorate the queen of Bangla films.
Suchitra, who died at the age of 82 in Kolkata on Friday, studied at the Pabna high school until she left the country for India with her family in 1947.
Speakers at the condolence meet said Suchitra was the pride of Pabna as well as the school associated with her childhood in this country.
Many students and teachers broke down in tears as they discussed Suchitra’s life and work.
“Suchitra achieved the top position in Bangla films, but she is originally our girl. So, it is our duty to keep her memory alive,” one of the speakers said.
The meeting decided to commission a state of Suchitra to keep her memory alive at the school.
Headmaster Md Jayedur Rahman chaired the meeting, while it was also addressed by teachers Aliza Khatun, Anjon Kundu, Abul Kalam Azad, Meher Sultna and Abdur Rafique.
