The European Union has brushed aside any possibility for Bangladesh losing Generalised System of Preference (GSP) in Europe, BSS reported.
“Our companies are interested in continuing to invest. I think it is in everybody’s interests,” William Hanna, the EU ambassador in Dhaka, said on Sunday.
“We are not considering any change in the GSP at the moment,” he said adding that GSP is important both for Bangladesh and Europe.
The comments laid to rest any speculations on whether Bangladesh will face subjection in view of the current political situation of the country.
In response to a query on whether EU will reconsider GSP for Bangladesh for non-compliance, Hanna said the matter will be under discussions.
“The EU would probably review the progress in the next couple of months. We will have to sit down with the government to see where we are,” he said.
There has been progress in some areas, and there are some where improvement is needed, he said.
