Upazila elections will be held in some parts of the country on February 19, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced on Sunday.
Elections will be held in 102 upazilas among almost 500 of those existing in the country – the subdivisions of the 64 districts in Bangladesh.
The last date for filing nomination papers for the upazila polls is January 25, the CEC said during a media conference at the offices of the Election Commission in the afternoon.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised for evaluation of eligibility by January 27, he said. Last date for withdrawal of nomination is February 3.
The schedule for upazila elections through these 100 upazilas comes just two weeks after Awami League was re-elected to power through January 5 polls.
This is the first phase of upazila elections. The upazila polls are expected to be completed in two other phases scheduled for March and May this year.
