Police recovered the bullet-wounded body of a local leader of the Islami Chhatra Shibir from Sitakunda upazila, Chittagong on Sunday morning.
Law enforcers have identified the deceased as Mosharraf Hossain, 22, a municipal unit secretary of the Shibir, the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, in the upazila.
The body was recovered from Choto Darogarhat, adjacent to the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, Sitakunda police station Officer-in-Charge Iftekhar Hossain confirmed.
Mohammad Sahadat, one of the deceased's cousins, claimed that members of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had picked up Mosharraf on Saturday night.
RAB 7 commanding officer Miftah Uddin Ahmad refused any connection to the incident saying: “We did not operate any drives wihin that area last night.”
OC Iftekhar Hossain said the body was sent for autopsy at Chittagong Medical College Hospital and any details can be revealed after an investigation.
