Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad has said election in some upazila parishads would be held in February.
The CEC made the statement after a meeting with the officials of LGRD, Education, Primary and Mass Education Ministries at the commission office in the afternoon.
“The tenure of some upazila parishads will be ended in February. Election in those upazila parishads will be held in February,” said the CEC.
He said election would be held in 487 upazila parishads in three phases.
“The date of election would be fixed considering the SSC examinees,” he added.
Asked about the election schedule, Rakibuddin said: “The commission would take decision on election schedule in its meeting on Sunday.”
The country now has 487 upazila parishads. Chairmen and vice-chairmen of upazila parishads are elected by direct voting.
