One Islami Chhatra Shibir activist died in clashes between the joint forces and Jamaat-e-Islami in Satkhira Sadar upazila in the early hours of Saturday.
The dead was identified as Mohammad Choton, 22, son of Shahar Ali from Padmashakhara village of Satkhira Sadar, according to local police.
The joint forces attempted to conduct a drive in the area around 4:45am to stop the efforts, Satkhira Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque said.
Jamaat activists attacked the joint forces with brickbats and crude bombs in east Bhomra area, he said. The law enforcers were compelled to open fire.
Shibir activist Choton was found in the spot with bullet wounds and was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Satkhira is known to be a stronghold of the Jamaat and is one of the districts marked “vulnerable” in the country where the joint forces are cracking down.
The joint forces are a special force formed recently with paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police.
