PM spends afternoon with celebrities

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday spent an afternoon with poets, writers, journalists, academics, artists and intellectuals at a get-together she arranged for them at her official residence Ganabhaban.

The event was organised at the Ganabhaban South Lawn. The prime minister stepped in at 3.37pm, reports BSS.

Hasina talked to the guests and enquired about their wellbeing. Her sister Sheikh Rehana also joined the function to greet the guests.

Later, together with the guests, she enjoyed patriotic and folk songs and recitations performed at a decorated dais set up on the southeast corner of Ganabhaban.

Accompanied by Sheikh Rehana and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Sheikh Hasina enjoyed songs and poems sitting at the front row.

The guests were entertained with various kinds of traditional pitha (cakes) like pati sapta, bhapa and chitoi, and kebab, parata, nan ruti, sweetmeats, tea and coffee.

Those who attended the nearly two-hour programme included Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, the vice-chancellors and teachers of several public universities, writers Syed Shamsul Haque and Anwara Syed Haque, editors and chiefs of prominent newspapers and other media, journalist leaders, poet Lutfor Rahman Riton, actors Aly Zaker, Sara Zaker and Pijush Bandopadhhay, poets Ashim Saha and Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, cultural personalities Golam Quddus and Abdun Nur Tushar, former FBCCI president AK Azad and Bangladesh Insurance Association President Sheikh Kabir Hossain.

Several ministers including Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid were present among others.
