Shofiqul Islam, an independent candidate for the Lakshmipur 1 constituency, has boycotted the re-polling of the 10th national election on Thursday on the grounds of polls rigging in various polling centres of the district.
Shofiqul’s chief election agent and upazila Awami League Vice President Abu Taher made the declaration in a press conference in the afternoon.
Abu Taher claimed that fake votes were being cast in various polling centres of the district.
Meanwhile, re-polling is underway at 390 postponed centres in seven constituencies where polls were suspended following violence on January 5.
