Hearing on revision petition deferred for sixth time

Update : 15 Jan 2014, 07:00 PM

A Jhalokati court yesterday deferred for the sixth time, the hearing of a revision petition lodged by Henoara Begum, mother of Limon Hossain, challenging the dismissal of the case against six Rapid Action Battalion personnel accused of maiming her son.

The deferral came after Jhalokati district Public Prosecutor Advocate Golam Rasul Mannan submitted a time petition.

Shahidullah Baqaul, district and sessions judge, accepting the prayer fixed February 27 for the next hearing on revision petition.

Protesting harassment of the prosecution by procrastinating the hearing of the revision petition, Henoara Begum said she would continue her fight for justice against the six RAB personnel accused of attempting to murder and maiming her son.

On March 23, 2011, Limon – then a college student – was allegedly shot and maimed by the RAB at Jamaddarhat in Rajapur upazila of Jhalokati.

Following the incident, the Rajapur police station refused to accept a case by Henoara against the six RAB personnel, but was forced to register the case on April 10, 2011, as per a court order.

The police, however, on August 14, 2012, secretly filed the final report of the case lodged by Henoara, claiming that they found no evidence and witness against RAB.

On August 30, 2012, Limon’s mother filed a “no confidence (Naraji)” against the police report.

Jhalakathi senior judicial magistrate on February 13, 2013 rejected the “no confidence” prayer.

The revision prayer against rejection of “Naraji” was lodged with Jhalakathi district and sessions judge court on March 13, 2013.

The hearing for acceptance of revision against rejection of “Naraji” was first fixed on August 13 and later on September 9, October 9, and November 27, as well as January 15, 2014.

It is mentionable that RAB on March 23, 2011 filed two cases with Rajapur police station against the teenager and seven others.
