An Army person was killed as a speedily-driven passenger bus ran him over near on Jessore-Dhaka Highway in Khayertala area, adjacent to Jessore Cantonment, on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Corporal Mahfuzur Rahman, 28, a member of the 4th Signal Battalion, Jessore Cantonment.
Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer in-charge of Kotwali police station told the Dhaka Tribune that a Kushtia-bound passenger bus of Rupsha Paribahan ran Mahfuzur over while he was crossing the Jessore-Dhaka Highway, leaving him dead on the spot.
He said: “The killer bus and the driver managed to flee the scene immediately after the incident.”
His body was taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital, said police.
