Eleven activists of BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami were held in an overnight drive of the joint forces from two upazilas of Satkhira until Wednesday morning.
The detainees were all union and ward-level leaders of Kalaroa and Kaliganj upazilas, Satkhira police Additional Superintendent Mohammad Mahiduzzaman said.
They all have been shown arrested in several cases over violence during recent hartal and blockade programmes, the police official said.
“They were in hiding for a long time. We received information that they came back in the area. They have been nabbed from their homes and sent to prison after being produced at a Satkhira court.”
Satkhira is known to be a stronghold of the Jamaat-e-Islami and is a “vulnerable” district where the joint forces are cracking down on violence.
