The Election Commission has decided to keep the army deployed until January 19 and to increase the number of deployed law enforcers, to ensure peaceful environment after the re-scheduled polls in the suspended eight constituencies.

Moreover, the EC has also decided to increase the timeframe of the deployment of executive and judicial magistrates, EC officials said.

Election Commissioner Mohammad Abu Hafiz said the army would remain deployed until January 19 instead of January 17, adding that the executive and judicial magistrates would remain deployed for six days instead of four days, he added.

EC officials said 43 army personnel would be deployed for every 10 centres, 132 police personnel for every three, 82 RAB personnel for every five and 43 BGB personnel for every 10 centres as striking force.

A total of 392 polling centres in eight constituencies of six districts will see polls on January 16.

Of the 392 polling centres, 57 are in Dinajpur 4, two in Kurigram 4, 54 in Gaibandha 1, 80 in Gaibandha 3, 72 in Gaibandha 4, 46 in Bogra 7, 60 in Jessore 5, and 21 centres in Lakshmipur 1.

The voting at these polling centres were postponed because of widespread violence including arson attacks and vandalism of election offices during the 10th parliamentary polls on January 5.
