A total of 80 joint secretaries of the civil administration have been promoted to additional secretary putting the total number to 307.
The public administration ministry on Monday issued a gazette notification in this regard.
The promotion comes within a day of the formation of new government led by the Awami League. The 10th parliamentary polls were held on January 5 amidst a boycott from the then main opposition the BNP.
According to the public administration ministry database, a total of 31 additional secretaries are now serving as officers on special duty (OSD).
The newly promoted additional secretaries would be considered as OSDs immediately after they join the posts, the gazette says.
As per the organogram of the civil administration, there are only 108 approved posts for additional secretaries and 430 for joint secretaries.
With the latest promotion, the number of joint secretaries now stands at 931. A large number of joint secretaries have also been serving as OSD for a long time as there are not enough posts to assign them.
