The new government will rule the country for five years, Commerce Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Tofail Ahmed said on Monday.
He made the comment while talking to journalists for the first time after taking office at the secretariat in the morning, following the oath-taking on Sunday.
“The new government has been elected by the people for five years. The government will complete its five years tenure doing good works for the countrymen,” he said.
“However, the path of talks is still open now,” he noted.
“The decision of calling off hartal, blockade proves that BNP’s politics was wrong and they have realized it now,” said the veteran AL leader.
Regarding Jatiya Party’s dual role in government and opposition, Tofail said: “The JaPa will make constructive criticism of the government staying with the government.”
The aim of his commerce ministry is to boost the trade at home and abroad, he said replying to a query.
The 49-member cabinet of the 10th parliament took oath on Sunday at the Bangabhaban. Tofail Ahmed was given the charge of Commerce Ministry.
