49-member cabinet sworn in , portfolios announced

A new 49-member cabinet led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was sworn in on Sunday afternoon.

President Abdul Hamid administered the oath.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will look after the Cabinet Division, Public Administration Ministry and Defence Ministry.

The ministers of the new cabinet are --- Abul Mal Abdul Muhith (Finance), Amir Hossain Amu (Industries), Tofail Ahmed (Commerce), Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Disaster Management), Nurul Islam Nahid (Education), Hasanul Haq Inu (Information), Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain (Expatriates Welfare) , Syed Ashraful Islam (LGRD), Shahjahan Khan (Shipping), Mohammad Nasim (Health and Family Planning), Syed Mohsin Ali (Social Welfare), Prof Motiur Rahman (Religious Affairs), Matiya Chowdhury (Agriculture), Obaidul Quader (Communications), Rashed Khan Menon (Civil Aviation and Tourism), Asaduzzaman Noor (Cultural Affairs), AHM Mostafa Kamal (Planning Ministry), Advocate Anisul Haque (Law), Anwar Hossain Monju (Environment and Forest), Mustafizur Rahman Fizar (Primary and Mass Education), Engineer Mosharraf Hossain (Housing and Public Works), Md Mojibul Haque (Railway), Shamsur Rahman Sharif (Land), Emajuddin Pramanik (Textile and Jute), Anisul Islam Mahmud (Water Resources), Sayedul Haque (Fisheries and Livestock), Quamrul Islam (Food), Abdul Latif Siddique (Post and Telecommunications and ICT) and AKM Mojammel Haque (Liberation War).

The state ministers are ---Meher Afroz Chumki (Women and Children Affairs), Shahriar Alam (Foreign Affairs), Mirza Azam (Textile and Jute), Junayed Ahmed Palak (Information and Communication Technology), Ismat Ara Sadek (Primary and Mass Education), Mashiur Rahman Ranga (Rural Development and Cooperatives) , Nasrul Hamidul Haque Bipu (Energy), M A Mannan (Finance), Zahid Malik (Health and Family Planning),Bir Bahadur (CHT), Yeafes Osman (Science and Technology), Narayan Chandra Chandra (Fisheries and Livestock), Biren Sikdar (Youth and Sports), Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu (Labour and Employment), Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal (Home), Saifuzzaman Chowdhury (Land) and Promod Mankin (Social Welfare).

The deputy ministers are --- Arif Khan Joy (Youth and Sports) and Abdullah al Islam Jacob (Water Resources).

The portfolios of the ministers have been distributed through a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday evening.

According to the Rules of Business 1996, the prime minister will be in direct charge of those ministries or divisions which have not been assigned to any minister or state minister. 

The swearing-in ceremony began at 3:30pm at Bangabhaban and ended at 3:58pm.

Cabinet Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

The 10th general elections were held on January 5 amidst a boycott from the then main opposition BNP.

The Awami League has secured absolute majority in the 10th parliament by bagging 232 seats – 105 contested and 127 uncontested.

The Jatiya Party has become the second largest party in the parliament bagging 33 seats – 13 contested and 20 uncontested.

On Saturday, the Parliament Secretariat published a gazette notification confirming Rawshan Ershad as the Leader of the Opposition in the 10th parliament.
