Two women were run over by two separate buses leaving them dead in separate incidents in the capital’s Dhanmondi and Shonir Akhra Saturday night.
Of them, a Sufiya Begum, 55, of Moneshwar Road in Hajaribagh was killed immediately after a bus ran over her in front of Lab Aid Hospital around 7:30pm in Dhanmondi while a 35-year-old unidentified woman died at around 11:30pm after she was ran over by another bus at Shonir Akhra at around 8:00pm.
Witnesses said Sufiya Begum faced her tragic death while crossing the road. Two security guards of Lab Aid hospital-- MdShimul and Shahid Miah—had rushed her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), but the doctors declared her dead afterwards.
Witnesses Shimul and Shahid told the Dhaka Tribune that a New Market bound speeding bus hit the woman while she was crossing the road after she had got down from another bus. She had been returning her Hajaribagh house after visiting one of her daughter in Mirpur.
Sheikh Abu Saleh Muhammad, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi police station, said the bus that killed Sufiya was seized but its driver and his helper escaped the arrest.
The family members and relatives of the victim have been informed of the incident and a case would be filed after they come to police.
Meanwhile, another bus ran over the unidentified woman when she had been crossing the road at Shonir Akhra at around 8:00pm. The locals had rushed her to the DMCH where she died at around 11:30pm.
Besides, a 50-year-old patient identified as Lutfor Rahman died after he had allegedly fell down from a trolley at the DMCH in the afternoon.
Lutfor, who was a security guard of a private firm at Motijheel, was taken to the DMCH after he fell in sick and he fell down from a trolley while he was shifting from Ward-701 to the new building of the hospital.
