15-km tailback on Dhaka-Tangail highway

Update : 11 Jan 2014, 06:26 AM

A 15-kilometre long tailback has been created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway Saturday morning due to huge traffic flow after getting a reprieve from the back-to-back hartal and communication blockade of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.

Police said vehicular movement almost came to halt in Mirzapur upazila due to heavy pressure of vehicles, causing immense suffering to the passengers.

Vehicles started getting stuck since Friday evening leading to the gridlock stretching from Dalla to Gorai in Mirzapur, sources said.

While talking to this correspondent, a truck driver Abdullah said: “I started my journey from Rangpur at 7pm Friday and I have reached in Mirzapur of Tangail at 11am Saturday.”

Gorai Highway Office-in-Charge Jubaildul Alam told Dhaka Tribune that the tailback has been created due to heavy rush of vehicular movement. He, however, said, the vehicles are plying on the highway very slowly.
