Many parts of the country is covered in a blanket of thick fog disrupting normal life and hampering waterway communications along the Dhaka-Chandpur-Barisal route.
Our Correspondent reported that more than a hundred water vessels, including a number of passenger launches, have been disrupted and left stranded on both sides of numerous Launch Ghats in the district.
Many launches were stuck mid-river on Thursday night resuming operation five to six hours after the fog had dissipated.
The situation caused major grief to the several hundreds traveling on the ferries.
A number of launches carrying hundreds of passengers got stuck for four hours on the Dhaka-Chandpur route because of poor visibility.
Ali Asgar Sarker, a launch owner, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The plying of water vessels on almost all routes of the Southern region has been stopped because of blurred visibility due to dense fog."
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation authorities said all vessels traveling along these routes were asked to be careful while plying in mid-river.
