A policeman slapped national cricket team player Sohag Gazi and tried to pick him up from the capital's Rupnagar area on Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses said the incident took place after a vehicle of law enforcers on patrol duty was being blocked off by Sohag Gazi's car near road-7 around 4pm.
A quarrel soon ensued between the cricketer and Assistant Sub Inspector Wahid. The policeman landed a slap on Gazi and tried to pick him up.
But the policeman later calmed down after locals told him about the identity of Sohag Gazi.
Dhaka police Mirpur zone Deputy Commissioner Imtiyaz Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune it was a “simple case of misunderstanding.”
“The driver of Sohag Gazi did not move despite repeated honking. The patrol team could not move as the car was parked blocking the road,” he said.
No complaint was filed regarding this matter until 11pm.
