President Abdul Hamid has invited Awami League President Sheikh Hasina to form new government.
Ehsanul Karim, press secretary to the president, told reporters in a briefing at Bangabhaban, on Thursday evening.
The president also congratulated Hasina as she re-elected the president of the Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP).
The premier entered at Bangabhaban at 6:18pm and left at 7:30pm, reports our correspondent Emran Hossain Shaikh.
Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan also attended the meeting.
A total of 283 MPs, who were elected in the 10th parliamentary polls, took oath on Thursday morning.
An hour later after the oath taking, Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the new cabinet would be sworn in on Sunday.
